REFLECTION
Experience
This semester of learning typography has been quite a journey for
me. There were a lot of struggles at first as I was unfamiliar
with the softwares used and the module itself, but as time goes by
I got the hang of it and I was able to find the fun in it. I have
learned a lot from the lectures as well as in the process of doing
the tasks. Typography has taught me a lot, from the importance of
observation to discipline and patience. And I think it's safe to
say that I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and create my
own designs in this first semester and that I actually had fun
despite all the struggles and setbacks while learning
typography.
Observation
I see that there's a lot more to creating a typeface than what is
usually seen as I observed and deconstructed a typeface, figuring
out the execution process as well as the thought process behind
it. Not to mention the time and effort put into it. But most
importantly, I see the importance of learning Typography as it has
a really big role in creating a good design.
Findings
I was introduced to unfamiliar rules and guidelines, and loads of
new terms in Typography and I found that it's very different from
the way that I personally like to do designs. I didn't like that I
had to follow strict rules to be able to create a 'correct'
design. But as I followed them I saw the actual impact it had on a
design and I was able to understand the importance of those rules.
