Figure x.x Example of PSA poster
Creative Poster is made up of four keys:
- Title
- the descriptive indicator of the contents of the poster
- should not exceed two lines of text
- Text
- should clearly describe th message but not overloaded
- Graphic
- must appear in context with the text
- must be high res (300 dpi or higher)
- White space
- creates “breathing room” in poster
- helps viewers avoid feeling overwhelmed
Flow
- coordinates with how readers’ eyes move around the different sections of poster
- hierarchy is important
Color
- draws reader’s gaze and define the different sections of your poster.
WEEK 6 : Poster Design Execution
A public service announcement (PSA) is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, with the objective of raising awareness of, and changing public attitudes and behavior towards, a social issue.
Once you’ve narrowed down your scope, you can start to do:
1. Research about your topic
WEEK 7: Color Theory
Color Theory
Both the science and art of using color. It explains how humans perceive color, and the messages colors communicate artistically and emotionally.

- Research about your topic
- Define your concept
- Start to develop your design projects
1. Research about your topic
- Study and gather all related information about your topic.

Color Theory
Both the science and art of using color. It explains how humans perceive color, and the messages colors communicate artistically and emotionally.
- RGB is created by mixing red, green, and blue light sources of various intensities.
- TVs, screens and projectors use red, green, and blue as their primary colors.
- CMYK (Subtractive Color Mixing Model), created by the subtraction of light. The CMYK color system used for printing.
- Hue is the most basic if color terms and denotes an object's color. Shade is a hue to which black has been added. For example, red + black become burgundy.
- Tint is a hue to which white has been added. For example, red + white become pink. Tone is a color to which black and white or grey) has been added.
- Color Harmony is the arrangement of the color in design in the most attractive and effective way for user's perception. Monochromatic is hard to make mistake and create the distasteful color scheme.
- Analogous is when 3 colors located right next to each other on the color wheel. Analogous usually one of the three colors predominates.
- Complementary are opposite in the color wheel. This scheme is opposite to analogous and monochromatic since it aims to produce high contrast. Complementary colors make imagery pop, but overusing them can get tiresome.
- Split-Complementary involves the use of three colors. Start with one color, find its complement and then use the two colors on either side of it.
- Triadic is evenly spaced around the color wheel and tend to be very bright and dynamic. Using triadic color scheme creates visual contrast and harmony simultaneously.
- The psychology of color, color have an extraordinary ability to provoke specific emotions for each individual and to attract people's attention and harmony simultaneously. While perceptions of color are somewhat subjective, some effects have universal meaning.
- Warm colors often evoke feelings of happiness, optimism, or energy. However, yellow, red, and orange can also have an attention grabbing effect and signal danger or make you take action (think stop sign, hazard warning, and barrier tape). Cool colors are usually calming and soothing but also can express sadness. Purple is often used to help spark creativity as it's a mixture of blue (calm) and red (intense).
- Black is often used sparingly, such as text, but it works quite well as a primary color element (like for backgrounds). Black adds an air of sophistication and elegance, and also mystery, though with much bolder confidence. White, this primary color gives off an impression of clean, virtuous, health. White pairs well with just about anything, making it ideal as a secondary color.
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK
Project 2B: Conceptual Poster Design
1. How are you, as an individual affected by COVID19? Physically and mentally? Are they related?
For me, Covid19 has quite an impact on my mental health especially as a
student. Back before the pandemic starts, i feel like the stress of
schoolwork is balanced out by the times I had fun with my friends. Now that
social interactions irl are limited, I feel like the ratio it's very heavy
on work despite lots of hours of free time. Also, this isolation has made me
feel less motivated and more anxious. They are related to my physical health
because I had trouble sleeping because of my anxiety, which resulted to
either not getting enough sleep or sleeping much longer than the average
amount of hours of sleep.
2. Research online:"young adult/student's mental health affected by COVID19", save/bookmark the articles that you are interested. Make a summary of each articles.
One in three adolescents (31.9 percent) will meet the criteria for an anxiety disorder by age 18. According to the Child Mind Institute, 14.3 percent of teens will be affected by depression and bipolar disorder. With the added trauma of the global pandemic, teens are one of the most affected groups. The pandemic has forced teens to be removed from normal social, physical, and educational interactions. Research results show that kids have been hardest hit by changes in social interactions over the past year, with 3 in 4 parents reporting a negative impact on their teen’s connections to friends.
Research shows that adolescents’ mental health has been severely impacted by dealing with COVID-19. Anxiety, depression, and distress are just a few of the issues they have experienced. A new study shows many teens are also dealing with problems falling asleep. Results showed that despite the opportunity for more sleep during the lockdown, these teens were plagued with greater difficulty sleeping.
3. View posters on Pinterest, limited to posters designed with IMAGES/PHOTOS
and texts, bypass posters designed with GRAPHIC and texts. PIN the posters
that you like, ask yourself what do you like about the selected posters? The
composition? The colour? The way the message been delivered?
Figure x.x Poster Inspiration #1
What I love about this poster is the composition and the color scheme. They
used one vibrant color to contrast the glasses and some elements in the
background. What I also like is that it's very neat, the cropping of the image
is clean, love part of the girl's arm is behind the 'M' because it creates
depth.
Figure x.x Poster Inspiration #2
What I love is the the warping of the text following the shape of the face,
that really makes the poster less static and boring. I like vibrant red used
too because it really attracts attention.
4. View posters on Pinterest, limited to PSA posters only. PIN the posters that you like, ask yourself what do you like about the selected posters? The composition? The colour? The way the message been delivered?
Figure x.x PSA poster #1
The first poster that I picked is a pollution poster by WWF. What I like
about this poster is the photo manipulation because I think It really
delivers the message in a smart way.
Figure x.x PSA poster #2
The second poster is about abuse, I particularly like the use of negative
space in the bottom and also the less saturated filter on the picture of the
boy.
Design Process
Figure x.x Mood Board
Figure x.x Concept
Figure x.x Progress
First, I masked the head and adjusted the brightness of the picture. I also
duplicated the layer and put it under the original layer and lowered the
opacity down to create some sort of layering effect.
Figure x.x Progress
I then recoloured the lips with read and added the writings on top of it.
Lastly, I wrote the word 'deal' and made it bigger as well as lowering the
opacity down and erasing the part where the head is so it looks like the
word is behind the head.
Final Submission
Figure x.x Final Submission Project 2B: Conceptual Poster Design
The Covid-19 pandemic plays a huge role in adolescents’ mental health nowadays. The pandemic causes mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and a lot more. But some are afraid to speak up and talk about their mental health problems which could cause deeper to physical health problems as well. Not being able to go out, isolated at home, adolescents can feel very isolated which leads to several mental health problems. Also the pressure of online education, can worsen their mental health. Before the pandemic, the pressure of education is balanced out by social interaction among friends. Now since in real-life social interactions are very limited due to social distancing, loneliness creeps in along with other mental health issues, which can also lead to physical health problems as well. Though not a lot of parents know what their child is going through and give the proper medication or therapy. Most adolescents are suffering in silence because most likely their parents won’t understand them. Parents would usually not look at mental health as a real thing. So they tend to look down on mental health problems and instantly judge without trying to understand what adolescents are going through. Teens with mental health issues because of the pandemic are afraid to speak up because they’re afraid they’re going to get judged.
FEEDBACK
Mr Martin said it already looks good, but move the head to the center a
bit.
REFLECTION
I learned a lot throughout this task, mainly more about using
photoshop and understanding compositions. I did encounter some
struggles and setbacks but overall I was glad that I was able to have
this opportunity to learn more about conceptual poster design and how
to use Photoshop.
